By Peggy KellySanta Paula TimesTwo Ventura County supervisors and a former Ventura mayor are the Committee Against Measure Y according to recent campaign filings.County Supervisors Steve Bennett and Linda Parks - who represent Ventura/Ojai and Thousand Oaks respectively - and Brian Brennan, a Ventura City Councilman and former mayor are the only members listed of the Committee Against Measure Y, which is opposing the Adams Preserve.Santa Paula voters will decide April 18 whether or not to move the city’s CURB line to include the Adams Preserve, more than 6,500 canyon acres located northwest of the city.According to the impartial analysis of Measure Y, if approved the measure would amend the General Plan to include up to 495 custom home sites, a 100-acre park, resort, golf course, open space and a 40-acre parcel for public use.Adams Preserve owner Arnie Dahlberg and developer Pinnacle Group would have to go through the development approval process that includes annexation as well as a specific plan and development agreement according to the analysis.
The countywide Save Open Spaces and Agricultural Resources has spearheaded the opposition to Measure Y culling donations from a broad base of Ventura County residents but scant funds from Santa Paula residents.According to the campaign filing covering the period from January 1 to March 6, SOAR received $17,199 in donations with from approximately 70 donors whose donations were dominated by $100 in individual giving, including one donation from Washington, D.C.Only five Santa Paulans are listed as SOAR donors.Top donors to the Committee Against Measure Y include $1,000 donations from Chapala Café of Eureka, Hank Stoutz of Ventura, Johanson Dielectrics of Camarillo, and Malinda Chouinard of Ventura.SOAR has spent about half its Measure Y specific donations but had an ending cash balance of almost $56,000.During the same reporting period, according to the campaign filing by a subsidiary of the Pinnacle Group, about $418,000 was paid out for campaign services and related costs in support of Measure Y.
