By Peggy KellySanta Paula TimesDeliciously mixing give and take, the Boys and Girls Club of Santa Clara Valley is offering a unique opportunity to support the “Positive Place for Kids” by buying coffee and/or tea. Not just any coffee or tea, but Limoneira’s own Guara Premium coffee and its specialty teas, offered at a price that can’t be beat, courtesy of Limoneira Co., which is providing the goodies at cost for the fundraiser. Not only will sales bring additional funds to the club - which serves the communities of Santa Paula, Fillmore and Piru - and its wide array of programs, but they will also provide character building for the youth it serves. “This program dovetails with the club’s goal of helping young people develop leadership skills and provide opportunities for planning, decision-making and contributing to the club and the community,” noted B&GCSC Executive Director Pat Zwagerman.Everyone is getting into the act, including Tomas Gonzalez, Limoneira’s assistant packing house manager, who has wholeheartedly embraced the fundraising effort and has been known to hand out samples of the special blends of Limoneira teas.
Born in Mexico, Gonzalez grew up on Limoneira Ranch. “I didn’t go to the clubhouse because of a lack of transportation... no VISTA buses in those days,” he noted. But, “I’m definitely interested in what the club offers kids... I’m just helping out in any way I can for any organization in Santa Paula or Ventura County.”Although club supporters can order the Brazilian grown coffee and teas from Sri Lanka to be shipped via Federal Express, orders can be picked up at any of the club locations without incurring shipping charges. Pickup of orders is available at the club’s Administration Office on Railroad Avenue, its Las Piedras Park site, or at the main clubhouse on East Harvard Boulevard. There are also order pickup points at club sites in Fillmore and Piru. The mission of the club is to inspire and enable the healthy growth and development of all youth in a supportive and safe environment by providing a safe place to learn and grow. The Boys & Girls Club of Santa Clara Valley also provides young members with ongoing relationships with caring, adult professionals. For more information contact the Boys & Girls Club of Santa Clara Valley at 525-7910.
