On October 13th, Western Farm Services staff donated their time and talent by giving more than 200 hours of community service in two days.

On October 13th, Western Farm Services staff donated their time and talent by giving more than 200 hours of community service in two days. Mike Binsley, Branch Manager for Western Farm Services, lead the way by sharing the company’s expertise. More than 30 employees were on hand and picked 1000 pumpkins, assembled 20 tents, set-up 40 tables and hung 30 signs indenting the family fun activities scheduled on Saturday, October 14th.The Home for the Harvest event was held from 10am to 4pm, free to the public. Families attending received free pumpkins; free produce, picked fresh ears of corn at no cost. As a result of Western Farm Services community service efforts, Ventura County families were able to navigate there way though this exciting and educational event.The Home for the Harvest event was attended by more than 3,500 people. Families participated in activities encouraging agricultural education. Many 4-H youth and adult members facilitated interactive educational activities promoting gardening, farming, such as composting, container gardening, floral designing, goat making soap, animal care, quilting, spinning, bug suckers, which teaches the importance of pest control by identifying useful bugs in the garden. Children and adults made hats from recycled paper to prevent skin and sun damage.Melanie Binsley, Mike’s wife supported the Hansen Agricultural Center as well by distributing Faulkner House handouts and assisting with other tasks as needed. Western Farm Services’ mission is to contribute their company’s time and talent by supporting the advancement of agricultural education in Ventura County.
Following the event, Western Farm Services staff returned to clean-up. They empty trash cans, disassemble tents, sweep floors and took down more than 40 tables. Mike and his staff also removed event signage and spruced up the Hansen Agricultural Center at Faulkner Farm. We really appreciate Western Farm Services community service efforts and support.On December 6, 2006, Leah Haynes, the Volunteer Coordinator presented Michael Binsley and the Western Farm Services staff with a special plaque recognizing their outstanding community service contribution on October 13th and 14th. The University of California would like to extend a sincere thank you to Western Farm Services for their outstanding commitment to community services.
