Roy C. Wilson, Jr. Roy C. Wilson, Jr., born in Los Angeles, June 12, 1918, to Agnes Thorne and Roy Wilson, died peacefully at home on April 17, 2007, aged 88.Roy was a lifetime resident of Santa Paula, with a long record of commitment to the community. A member of the Santa Paula High School football team (class of 1937), he went on to graduate from UCLA with a degree in Agronomy. His professional life was centered around agriculture (first the avocado nursery business) and water (he built the irrigation-supply company Coastal Pipco).Like his father Roy C. Wilson, Sr., the first licensed architect in Ventura County, he was a life long doer who made things happen. His most recent contribution to the local community was the organization of the Railroad Community Park on the corner of 10th and Santa Barbara Streets, where in recent times he liked to watch, from his electric cart, mothers push their strollers to the Floating Granite Ball fountain.Pre-deceased by daughter Lynn and his first wife Phyllis and sister Hilda, he is survived by his brother, George Wilson of Sonora; his wife, Barbara McDivitt Wilson; children, Janet, Kathleen, Margaret, Christopher, Marsha, Roger, and Kristine, and their partners, Wylie Greig, Gildo Campesato, Tony Whiting, Yvonne Flores, and Doug Tompkins; grandchildren, Chris, Libby, Jessica, Katie, Robin, Suzanne, Juliet, and Ian; and great-grandchildren, Emma, Kaitlyn, Matthew, Rebecca and Darcy. They have all benefited from his philosophy, often expressed as “We’ve got the world by the tail on a downhill pull, and all the lights are green.”
Family and friends will be gathering under Roy’s Christo-inspired umbrella at the Trulli, 947 Cliff Dr., on Saturday, April 21, at 3 p.m.Anyone wishing to remember Roy may make a contribution to his latest project, the Bear Sculpture for the Railroad Community Park (Santa Paula Community Fund/ Bear Sculpture, 134 N. Davis St., Santa Paula), and/or the Muscular Dystrophy Association (350 South Hope Ave., A 104, Santa Barbara, CA 93105).
