By Peggy KellySanta Paula Times“Heritage Valley Impressions II” will impress all art lovers with the special exhibit by the Santa Paula Society of the Arts, opening August 5 at the Santa Paula California Oil Museum. The 1 to 3 p.m. reception - a special program will be held at 1:30 p.m. - will be part of the exhibit of Society artists offering their impressions of the Heritage Valley, from Piru to the east to Santa Paula to the west. And that includes Fillmore, where SPSA President Judy Dressler is a resident. “The original ‘Heritage Valley Impressions’ show was such a success, the society had such a good turnout that we decided we would do the second one,” noted Dressler. “And the artists are all busy painting” to have works ready for the show, one of the most popular art events in the county.Dressler said that there is more to “Heritage Valley Impressions II” than the obvious: “It gives you such a broad field to work from, the river valley doesn’t limit you to one subject. The Heritage Valley encompasses so much!”“There is such a great array of subjects along the 126 route,” said George Appel of the SPSA, one of the exhibiting artists. “People visiting are always amazed at the beauty in this valley.”
Society artists enjoy the opening reception, where they can meet art lovers and explain their technique, choice or subject matter and how that mixed to form their own impression of the Heritage Valley.“The Santa Paula California Oil Museum is a wonderful draw,” with dazzling potential once the Santa Paula Art Museum opens next door, said Dressler. “Combined with the work done by the Santa Paula Society of the Arts,” which has its Gallery at the historic Depot, “maybe a light bulb will go off and people will say ‘Hey, if you want to see fine art you go to Santa Paula.’ It’s just a matter of time before Santa Paula and art become synonymous.”And just what is Dressler, an oil painter, creating for “Heritage Valley Impressions II”? “I’m working on a fast disappearing commodity here in the Heritage Valley... the oranges!”The Santa Paula California Oil Museum, located at the corner of 10th and Main streets, is open Wednesday through Sunday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is $4 for adults, $3 seniors, students (6-17) $1, and free to members and children 5 and under. For more information call SPCOM at 933-0076, or visit the website, www.oilmusuem.net. The exhibit will continue through September 16.
