On Sunday, December 9 between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., firefighters from Ventura County IAFF Local #1364 in Ojai will be at the intersection of Highways 33 and 150 to “fill their boots” for Jerry’s Kids. All are invited to come by and meet with local firefighters and make a donation for those diagnosed with any of the 43 neuromuscular diseases covered by the Muscular Dystrophy Association. On this day, both on and off-duty firefighters will be dressed in uniform, stationed at the corners of the “Y” intersection. To attract attention and alert drivers as they approach the intersection, a reserve engine will be parked on the corner with a “Fill the Boot” banner.
Firefighters will be holding out their rubber boots, giving passing cars and pedestrians the opportunity to drop in currency as donations to MDA. In addition to the firefighters and other volunteers that will spend the day at the event, Albertsons and Vons are showing their support by donating food and drinks for the volunteers throughout the day.The Fill the Boot event is held with the goal of raising thousands of dollars for the Mid-State Chapter of the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Funds will remain local in the Tri-counties area, and will send children to MDA’s summer camp, fund research and MDA’s clinic, and purchase medical equipment.
