Mini-armed robbery spree ends with arrest of known gang juvenile

A mini-armed robbery spree that occurred in the Santa Clara River Valley - and one location in the city - ended with the arrest of a juvenile suspect recognized as a known gang member on surveillance tape by Santa Paula police investigators, according to a Santa Paula Police Department spokesman.

The robberies were reported on late Saturday evening, February 23 through early Sunday morning, February 24, according to SPPD Senior Officer Ryan Smith.The suspect had allegedly robbed two Saticoy area convenience stores “at knifepoint” before stopping at the Alliance Gas Station, located at the corner of Harvard Boulevard and Palm Avenue. “A male customer was talking to the female clerk when the male suspect approached with a knife,” demanding money, said Smith.The male bystander attempted to grab the knife and after a struggle was able to disarm the suspect, who fled the area on foot. “The suspect did not obtain money during this attempt,” Smith noted.
SPPD investigators reviewed the security surveillance tape of the incident and recognized the robber as a “known, 16-year-old gang member” who was spotted by SPPD officers on Monday, February 25 at approximately 10:24 a.m. walking in the 200 block of North Palm Avenue. “We wound up seeing him and he gave up right away” when confronted by SPPD officers.The juvenile was arrested without incident. Smith said that the suspect was transported to Ventura County Juvenile Hall and booked on “multiple counts of robbery, burglary and assault with a deadly weapon.”Santa Paula Police, Ventura Police and Ventura County Sheriff’s detectives continue to investigate the robberies.
