Ventura Superior Court selects new commissioners

The judges of the Ventura Superior Court have announced the selection of David M. Hirsch and Roger L. Lund as the court’s newest commissioners.

The judges of the Ventura Superior Court have announced the selection of David M. Hirsch and Roger L. Lund as the court’s newest commissioners. They fill the vacancies created by the appointments of Kevin G. DeNoce and David R. Worley to judgeships on Friday, May 16, 2008.Commissioner Hirsch is currently a deputy public defender for the Ventura County Public Defender’s Office. Before coming to the Public Defender’s Office in 2003, he worked as an associate attorney for the Law Offices of Lawrence Taylor in Long Beach, handling misdemeanors and felonies for a criminal defense firm specializing in driving under the influence of alcohol cases. Prior to that, he was a sole practitioner in the Law Office of David Hirsch in Lomita, handling criminal defense matters and multifamily housing development transactions.From 1997 to 2000, Hirsch served as a deputy district attorney with the Shasta County District Attorney’s Office, assigned to felony, misdemeanor and juvenile matters. From 1995 to 1997, he was general counsel and administrator to a consulting firm that helped charitable organizations plan, finance and develop apartment complexes that would serve the elderly or disabled. Hirsch earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California at Los Angeles, and his Juris Doctorate degree from the University of San Diego School of Law.Commissioner Lund is presently a principal in the Law Offices of Gose, Lechman & Lund, specializing in estate planning, probate, conservatorships and guardianships, elder law, trust administration, estate tax, real estate taxation and transfers, general business law, and business formation, termination and sales. He has been a temporary judge for the Ventura Superior Court since 2003, hearing trust, probate, conservatorship, guardianship, family law and small claims matters.
Lund earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Brigham Young University, and his Juris Doctorate degree from Pepperdine University School of Law. He is a past planning commissioner for the City of Camarillo, and has been active in several organizations benefiting Camarillo schools. He is a past board member of the Pleasant Valley Educational Foundation, the Boys and Girls Club of Camarillo, and the St. John’s Pleasant Valley Hospital Foundation, and a pat advisory board member of the Camarillo Ranch Foundation. He is active in Boy Scouts of America, and is himself an Eagle Scout.Commissioner Hirsch took the bench on Monday, June 9. Commissioner Lund will follow on Friday, June 13. His current clients will continue to be represented by other attorneys with his firm, which will remain in business after his departure.Superior Court Commissioners hear matters including, but not limited to Family Law, Juvenile Delinquency and Dependency, Child Support Services, Domestic Violence, Civil Harassment, Traffic, Criminal and Small Claims. They are required to have been admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of California for at least 10 years and serve at the pleasure of a majority of the court judges.Commissioners may be assigned to any court location in the county, which includes Ventura, Simi Valley and Oxnard.
