Doug Araiza wins on racetrack

Santa Paula racers competed and did well as the NHRA Hot Rod Heritage series returned to Bakersfield recently. Doug Araiza won in the C-Gas class. Araiza drove his newly finished ‘69 Z-28 Camaro to a .025rt, 9.668 sec, 141.79 mph, defeating a Las Vegas racer. The win vaulted Araiza from a tie for third place into the points lead in the class.Mike Wortman, who led the points going into this race, lost in the first round of eliminations and is now in second place by only 12 points behind Araiza.Ray Padgett, who also led the points chase in B-Gas, also lost in the first round and is now in second place, just one point behind the leader.In the A-Gas class Dean Lindsey lost in the semi-finals to the eventual runner-up. Lindsey is in fourth place in the points.
Eight of the 14 classes competing in the series will crown their class champions at the Southern California Shootout at the Auto Club Dragway in Fontana on September 13 and 14.The remaining six classes will be decided at the California Hot Rod Reunion in Bakersfield at the Auto Club Famoso Raceway on October 10 and 12.
