Varsity Coach Teohua Sanchez commented on last Friday’s big 34-14 win over Fillmore: “I was extremely pleased on how well we played on Friday. We played well against a very talented Fillmore squad. Coach Reyes did an excellent job once again game planning as he was able to hold the talented Fillmore offensive unit to just seven points. The entire Cardinal defense played lights out. Special teams played a pivot part once again as they returned the opening kickoff deep into Fillmore territory. Roland Hernandez blocked a field goal and Jeff Ontiveros returned it 71 yards for a TD. The Cardinal offense was able to score points when they needed to.I am very pleased with the state of the program. This is all brand new for the players, for so long they accepted defeat. With a win on Friday we will be guaranteed a playoff spot. Something that Santa Paula Football has not done for more than half a decade!”
