Cardinal varsity baseball squad sweeps up visiting Thacher, 11-1

The Cardinal varsity baseball team took visiting Thacher Wednesday and came away with a 11-1 victory. The Cards could only manage one run per inning for the first three innings and then their bats came alive with three runs each in the next two innings and two more in the sixth.Andrew Burboa was the winning pitcher. He had relief help from Tony Penuelas, Justin Macias and Albert Carrillo.The top Santa Paula hitters included Matt Phillips who went 2 for 3 with a triple, two RBIs and 2 runs; Tony Penuelas was 2 for 3 with a double and two RBIs. Daniel Bustoz went 2 for 2 with a double and one RBI. This win gives the Cards a 7-1record so far this season. League play starts Wednesday, April 1 at home against Villanova Prep.
Santa Paula plays a double-header tomorrow (Saturday) at Pacifica High School, starting at 11:00 a.m.
