Students, parents and staff members from all of the school districts in the Santa Paula area joined together to raise funds for Haiti relief. The idea originated with Kathy Petersen, a teacher at Olivelands School in the Briggs School District. Petersen said she knew the students would respond. “I wanted to teach children to show respect and caring,” she said. “They exceeded all expectations.”
Between the five school districts, over $8,000 was raised. The checks from each district were handed over to the American Red Cross. Isbell Middle School and Grace Thille Elementary are doing their fund raising this week.
