The Santa Paula Theater Center will present the vintage comedy “The Late Christopher Bean” by Sidney Howard from April 16 through May 23 at the Santa Paula Theater Center, 125 S. 7th Street.

“The Late Christopher Bean” is based upon “Prenez Garde a la Peinture” by Rene Fauchois, originally directed by Jenn Thompson.

Yankee practicality collides with New York’s sophisticated art world in Sidney Howard’s sly 1930’s comedy “The Late Christopher Bean.” All hell breaks loose when a celebrated painter’s early works are traced to the humble home of a country doctor. Both a biting satire on the destructive power of greed and a touching view of a family in turmoil, this feisty comedy will have you cheering for the most unlikely of heroines.

Directing the SPTC production is Andrea Tate, with Leticia Mattson stage-managing. Mike Carnahan has created the sets for this production, with Gary Richardson designing the lights and Barbara Pedziwiatr creating the costumes. Leslie Nichols is producing “The Late Christopher Bean.”

Featured in this classic satire are Doug Friedlander as Dr. Haggett, Erin Hollander as Susan Haggett, Virginia Streat as Mrs. Haggett and Andrea Robles as Ada Haggett. Brenda Miller plays Abby, with Peter Krause as Warren Creamer, Anthony Stetson as Tallent, Elixeo Flores as Rosen and Jerry Nehring as Davenport.

“The Late Christopher Bean” will play Friday and Saturday evenings at 8 p.m., and 2:30 p.m. on Sunday matinees. Tickets may be reserved by calling the SPTC box office at 525-4645. For more information or to reserve tickets online, visit www.santapaulatheatercenter.org.
