SP man arrested for suspicion of firing on vehicle after Ventura concert

A downtown Ventura based rap music show Sunday evening was the scene of several incidents including the arrest of a Santa Paula man who allegedly fired a gun at the conclusion of the concert held at the Majestic Ventura Theater.

According to Ventura Police, after the show headlined by the rap group The Game ended, four men were reported to be fighting with two others on the second story of the a parking structure on Santa Clara Street, across the street from the historic theater.

Witnesses said as onlookers were trying to break up the fight one of the men went to a vehicle, pulled out a gun and fired two times towards the group of people involved in the altercation. The group had already entered a black sedan and was fleeing the scene at the time the shots were fired.

Ventura Officers were on the scene within moments and took Gilbert Hernandez, a 27-year-old resident of Santa Paula, into custody.

Investigators are not sure if anyone was injured in the incident and do not know if those who fled are suspects or victims. Police contacted area hospitals to alert them to a possible gunshot victim but there have been no reports of anyone seeking treatment.

Hernandez was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, and transported to Ventura County Jail.

The parking structure was closed for 40 minutes by police for an investigation before people were allowed to get in their vehicles to leave the scene.

A second concert incident involved a Merced man who was Tased by police after disrupting the concert and was escorted and held outside by theater security.

When Ventura Officers arrived on scene the man would not comply with instructions to stay down and fearing for their safety an officer shocked the man once with the Taser.

The man was treated at Ventura County Medical Center for minor injuries he received during the altercation and arrested on suspicion of fighting and resisting arrest, both misdemeanors.
