Santa Paula’s Lady Cardinals remain undefeated in Frontier League softball, heading into Spring break. The Cards beat Calabasas 1-0 in a tight game featuring only four Cardinal hits and two by the Coyotes.Pitching for the Lady Cardinals for the entire game was Jalena Martinez.Offensively, Carla Berumen walked with one out in the fifth inning. She made it to second on a passed ball and scored on Pati Arana’s double with two out.Coming off that win, the Lady Cards next took on Fillmore in a non-league, doubleheader, winning 7-0 and 3-0.In the first game, Lauren Bustillos pitched for the seven inning victory, allowing three hits, one walk and six strike outs. Her record now stands at 4-0. Arana went 2-4 and scored three runs. Janelle Perez was 3-4 with four RBIs.In the second game the score was a little less, but still a Santa Paula win. Martinez pitched for the Cardinals, making her record 5-0. She allowed only five hits and struck out three.
Sarah Ruiz was 2-4 at the plate. Martinez was 1-3 at bat with three RBIs.In another non-league, make up game Tuesday the Varsity squad destroyed Channel Islands High School 10-0. Martinez again threw for the Lady Cardinals, bringing her record to 6-0. Channel Islands was allowed only four hits.Santa Paula had seven hits, including a fifth inning, two-run homer by Sarah Ruiz. The Lady Cardinals record is now 10-1 for the season.
