Ventura County Sheriff’s deputies arrested two area men Tuesday suspected of burglarizing a vehicle near the scene of a parked stolen car that investigators linked to the suspects.

Juan Arias, 21, and Jose Salas, 23, both residents of Santa Paula, were arrested in the early morning hours of June 14 after VCSD deputies responded to a 5:45 a.m. report of a group of people attempting to break into a car.

According to a VCSD statement, the reporting party said three people were trying to break into a car parked near the 100 block of Bella Vista in Camarillo when the car alarm went off and the suspects took off on foot.

Arias was taken into custody by VCSD deputies a short distance from the scene of the reported attempted break-in. Salas was later located by deputies in Crestview Park, and was also taken into custody. Deputies were unable to locate the third suspect, a woman.

A car deputies determined was associated with the suspects, which had been reported stolen from Ventura, was found near the scene.

Arias and Salas were arrested on suspicion of vehicle burglary, auto theft and theft and booked into Ventura County Jail. Deputies believe the suspects stole items from at least six vehicles in the Camarillo area. According to the VRSD statement, many of the vehicles that were burglarized were left unlocked.
