The Cruise Knights were tuning up in the historic Odd Fellows Lodge on East Main Street Wednesday evening at about 7:55 p.m. when there was an electrical power outage.

It was still light outside, but the band was practicing in the basement and, as one member noted, “I think they invented the term pitch black in our basement!”

The Cruise Knights reported the June 27 outage lasted about one hour. According to Southern California Edison Region Manager Nancy Williams, in all about 2,800 SCE customers were affected by the power failure, most “for 15 seconds or so to a minute or two.”

Twenty-nine customers located in the area of East Harvard Boulevard and 5th Street did remain without electrical power until shortly after 7 a.m. Thursday. Williams said the outage “involved a large circuit and impacted three transformers; a lot of equipment failed” that caused the loss of power to areas including East Harvard Boulevard, East Main Street and a portion south of Highway 126.

During the outage the Cruise Knights found their way to some chairs and chatted in the dark until power was restored. And then the band played on.
