Peggy Ann Margolin was born May 16, 1927 in Deadwood, South Dakota to Sam and Sarah Margolin. She attended the University of Nebraska, where she met her husband, Lawrence “Gavvy” Gavenman. They were married December 28, 1947 and resided in Deadwood, where she gave birth to two sons, Howard and Scott.

In August of 1961, the family moved to Santa Paula after Gavvy secured a teaching position at Isbell Middle School. Peggy worked as a lab secretary and pathology transcriber at Santa Paula Memorial Hospital for 28 years. In addition, she enjoyed time with her family and friends, dancing to big band music, and being a member of Soroptimist.

After Gavvy’s passing in 1983 she spent time with her children and grandchildren, and she traveled with her sister Faye and friends. In 1994, Peggy married Leo Mahler and moved to Thousand Oaks. They enjoyed traveling to a variety of locales and had many adventures together before he passed away in December 2006. Peggy then moved to Ventura to be closer to her family, where she especially enjoyed watching her great-grandchildren play and grow and made many friends at the Bonaventure.

Peggy is survived by her sister Faye Gitter; her two sons Howard (Ilene) and Scott (Julie); six grandchildren, Rachel (Keith) McKnett, Jeff (Laura), Jason, Aaron, Joseph (Kathleen), and Erica; four great-grandchildren with a fifth due in August; sisters-in-law Glenda Gavenman and Harriet (Gavenman) Rosenbaum; and many loving extended family members including nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Hugh, brothers-in-law Eugene and Harold, and husbands Gavvy and Leo.

Services for Peggy were held Friday, June 29, 2012 at Ted Mayr Funeral Home, 3150 Loma Vista Road, Ventura. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her memory to the American Cancer Society or Livingston Memorial Hospice.
