Shattered Howie Court window found to be caused by bullet

Residents of a usually quiet residential area had a front window shatter at their home Monday evening, the result of what Santa Paula Police suspect might have been a stray bullet although the residents did not hear gunfire.

According to SPPD Senior Detective Ken Clark, the incident was reported January 14 at about 10:30 p.m. in the 500 block of Howie Court near Bradley Street, an area near the canyons. Police searched the area but were unable to find a gunman.

Clark said, “The residents didn’t even hear a shot, but they heard the window shatter.” Police, he added, did recover a bullet inside the residence, “just the one,” and no other evidence of shots fired was found.

“It’s quite possible it could have been shot from a distance and they weren’t the intended target,” but, noted Clark, “we don’t know.” The incident is still being investigated.

Clark is asking anyone who might have information on this or any other criminal activity to contact the Santa Paula Police Department, (805) 525-4474. If the caller would prefer to remain anonymous, they can call the SPPD recorded Tip Hotline, (805) 933-4253-1-#.
