By Peggy KellySanta Paula Times?Santa Paula is home to more registered historic sites, homes and buildings than any other city in Ventura County - a total of 31! Four are on the National Register of Historic Places.? From the new Santa Paula brochure. It was only fitting that during Santa Paula?s Heritage Festival that the city?s very own newest tourism brochure was being handed out, a preview of the four-fold glossy - a perfect envelope size - that highlights the city?s attractions.?We have 20,000 of these that have been printed up and are being distributed all over,? said Jim Garfield, who was handing out the brochures from the Heritage Valley Tourism Bureau booth.Garfield, owner of Cal West Real Estate and President of the HVTB, is one of the sponsors of the brochure. Other members of the the Santa Paula Tourism Committee who helped pay the tab for the publication are First Western Bank (Maria Bombara), Santa Paula Chevrolet (JohnMacik), Limoneira Company (Frances Gonzales), Downtown Merchants
Association (Debbie Johnson), Santa Paula Lodge (Sam Kim), Santa Paula Inn(Donna Stewart), Aviation Museum of Santa Paula (Bob and Sally Phelps), Santa Paula Memorial Hospital (Pat Novak), Santa Paula Chamber of Commerce (Anne Davis), and California Oil Museum (City of Santa Paula). The tourism committee made sure the brochure is high-quality and lavishly illustrated with full-color photographs of famous city historical landmarks - the California Oil Museum building, Faulkner Farm Red Barn, Depot and Odd Fellows Clock Tower - as well as scenes of the murals, train, and airport. The Murals of Santa Paula are discussed, as are the Santa Paula Art Collection and the St. Francis Dam Memorial Project.Attractions such as downtown businesses, California Oil and Aviation museums are highlighted, as are special events and ?eye-candy? for cultural tourists who wish to see Santa Paula?s historical homes and buildings. The brochure also includes a street map pointing out parks and numbered places of interest.Copies of the brochure are being distributed throughout Southern California hotels, tourism bureaus and transportation centers. Copies are also on hand at the Santa Paula Chamber of Commerce offices, located in the historic Depot on the corner of 10th and Santa Barbara streets.
