Approximately 200 Santa Paula residents were without electrical power Saturday in a small area located in the west side of the city.

According to a Southern California Edison spokesman, 191 customers lost power at 8:47 p.m. in the area of the 600 block of West Harvard Boulevard, east of Peck Road.

Customers in the area, which include several businesses as well as private residences, were told they would be without power until about 5 p.m. while work crews made an unspecified repair.

Power was restored to the area at about 5:30 p.m.

While watching the SCE work crew in the area passersby noticed that an air conditioning unit had been removed from the roof of a vacant building and thrown onto the ground; police were called for a suspected attempt or actual theft of copper wiring from the building.

The cause of the power outage according to the SCE spokesman was unspecified equipment failure.
