From watching from hillsides and backyards to visiting Harding Park for a closer look, Saturday will be a night to light up the sky with a star spangled celebration America’s Independence with the July 4th Fireworks Spectacular!

The result of a true community fundraising effort co-sponsored by the Fireworks Committee and City of Santa Paula, the town celebrates the 4th of July with a spectacular fireworks show at Harding Park, a display that can be seen from almost every corner of the city.

This year there will also be free extended bus service to the celebration.

Saturday’s fireworks spectacular to celebrate 239 years of Independence will start at 9 p.m. at the park, located on the 1400 block of East Harvard Boulevard, where admission is free.

The show will mark the fifth year the patriotic celebration was made possible through community donations, after the city had to discontinue the event due to budget woes.

With the Rotary Club taking the lead, Rotarians Ginger Gherardi and Al Guilin were among those that vowed to bring back the pyrotechnic display, which costs about $15,000.

One-half of the cost must be paid by March to ensure the show will go on and each year the early fundraising has been successful and provided the community with a spectacular display of fireworks, including the grandest of grand finales.

Sponsors range from corporations to service clubs and individuals including those that put change into patriotic red, white and blue collection cans seen on merchants’ counters.

“The community has once again been extremely generous and we’re looking forward to a spectacular fireworks show,” said Gherardi.

She noted that the Valley Express bus service would be offering free, extended service until 10 p.m. on the 4th of July from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.

The July 4 bus schedules will be available online at —  http://www.valleyexpressbus.org

Schedules will also be available on the buses themselves, and at pass sales outlets.

Santa Paula offers numerous fine viewing areas, and many residents host July 4th barbecues to enjoy the patriotic display. Many people have favorite viewing areas throughout the city, including the area at the top of 10th Street known as Hospital Hill.

Others actually watch the show at Harding Park. Those who do so are urged to bring chairs and blankets in case the evening grows chilly before the thrill of the fireworks spectacular prompts warming cheers. Parking is limited in the Harding Park area, with many streets closed, so plan on carpooling and walking in to enjoy the show.

Although when the last bomb bursting in aim dims Saturday night it will mark the end of the 4th of July fireworks spectacular, organizers will already be planning next year’s show. Donations for the 2016 Independence Day celebration, whether large or small, can be made payable to Santa Paula Rotary/Fireworks and sent to P.O. Box 809 Santa Paula, CA 93061.
