Various sites were considered to exhibit the Oxnard Art Collection and as a meeting place for Art Club members; in 1962 the Plaza Gallery of Fine Arts was established in the former library building on North 5th Street, and for several years at the nearby Carnegie Art Museum.A new name, the Oxnard Art Association, was adopted in 1987, and juried exhibits continue to be held throughout the city as well as Santa Paula. The OAA has served the Oxnard community for over 80 years providing opportunities for artists to develop, exhibit and be recognized for their work. The OAA, like the SPSA, provides scholarships, publishes a newsletter and organizes juried exhibit opportunities for artists.Artists often belong to more than one organization; any member of the SPSA who belongs to another art group can sponsor an exhibit of same.
