Wrestlers have busy January schedule

Santa Paula High wrestlers have been competing every few days so far this month. After their last home match with Ventura, the girls on the wrestling team competed in the Women’s Williams Cup in Thousand Oaks. Megan Richardson, wrestling at 165 pounds, took first place with two pins. Marilee Rust recorded her first win to take the consolation championship at 126 pounds. Amanda Reed, at 134 pounds, placed sixth, after losing in the quarterfinals.Next on the agenda was the Frosh/Soph Rio Mesa Tournament.Ricky Beltran, wrestling in the heavyweight division went 3-0 to win his weight class. Michael Jue, at 119 pounds had 24 wrestlers in his division. He went 5-1, but ended up in third place. At 189 pounds, Narciso Mora placed sixth. Ronnie Casimiro also came in sixth in the 215-pound division. At 112 pounds, Rosendo Roman went 0-2.The Cardinals hosted Pacifica High School this week.The JV team lost, 42-24, but there were some high points. Marilee Rust took her 125-pound match by pinning her opponent in the third period. Megan Richardson won her 171-pound match against a much larger opponent after he was disqualified on penalties. Ronnie Casimiro, at 215 pounds, pinned his opponent at 51seconds into the first period.
At the varsity level Pacifica won, 57-24, largely because Santa Paula forfeited at four weight classes.Cardinal wrestlers won most of the matches. At 112 pounds, Rosendo Roman pinned his opponent at 3:29 in the second period. Michael Jue pinned his opponent in the 119-pound division and :50 in the first period. At 125 pounds, Luis Delgado lost his match, 21-14. At 135 pounds, Dante Friends pinned his opponent at 1:22 of the first round. At 140 pounds, Alex Tomayo was pinned at 3:03 of the second period. At 152 pounds, Paul Reed was pinned at :58 into the first period. At 160 pounds, Jesse Lira pinned his opponent at :55 of the first round. At 171 pounds, Joe Ricards pinned his opponent at :31 in the first period. At 189 pounds, Jason Mandle was pinned at :22 in the first period. And, heavyweight wrestler Noe Gonzalez pinned his opponent at 2:43 of the second period.
