Girls’ soccer teams play well, with mixed results

Varsity wins over Carp, 3-0

The Lady Cardinal soccer teams met up with two strong teams this week and last, posting a win for the varsity. They played at Oaks Christian a week ago, with the JV and varsity both losing, 4-0. Kristen Easley posted seven saves as the JV goalkeeper, while Raquel Gonzalez had eight saves on the varsity side. In he varsity match, Oaks Christian was awarded two penalty kicks for fouls called in the penalty area.Monday, the Lady Cards played host to Carpinteria. The Santa Paula JV lost their match, 1-0 and the Cardinal varsity won, 3-0.Raquel Gonzalez opened the scoring by receiving and controlling a penetrating pass from Janice Alamillo and blasted a shot past the Carpinteria goalkeeper. Just three minutes later, Gonzalez challenged the goalkeeper on a fast-paced through ball, forcing a mishandled save that Alamillo put back for a 2-0 half-time lead.Second-half scoring came from Claire Powers on a double assist by Gonzalez and Lizzy Aquino.
The Lady Cardinals host Fillmore Monday, starting at 3:00 p.m.
