Electrical power outage affects over 2,600 SCE customers

Over 2,600 Santa Paulans found themselves without electrical power when a series of planned outages became one big unplanned outage, knocking out traffic lights, radios, television sets and cash registers throughout a portion of the city.

By Peggy KellySanta Paula TimesOver 2,600 Santa Paulans found themselves without electrical power when a series of planned outages became one big unplanned outage, knocking out traffic lights, radios, television sets and cash registers throughout a portion of the city.The power outage occurred on June 24th just after 11 a.m. according to Southern California Edison Region Manager Nancy Williams.“Sometimes you have planned outages that cause unplanned outages,” during system testing and repair, said Williams. “We’ve been testing the system quite a bit in the Santa Paula area. . .”The outage occurred during such a series of planned outages while switching was being done at the Wakefield Substation on the Atmore Circuit.The outage knocked electrical power off to 2,607 SCE customers, including Santa Paula City Hall and numerous traffic lights.
“Sorry, we can’t serve any food,” an employee of the Jack in the Box drive-through eatery told customers who pulled in who were unaware of the power outage.Areas north of Santa Barbara Street, west of Faulkner Road, east of 13th Street and south of Converse Road lost power said Williams.“All load was back up at 11:46 a.m.,” although some customers got their power back before then.Williams noted that some SCE customers “might have thought it was longer because they were involved in a planned outage,” that they had received previous notification of.“All of our generators came on fine when they were supposed to come on,” noted City Manager Wally Bobkiewicz of the city’s handling of the power outage. “It all worked out the way it should.”
