When the bids are returned the council will be asked for final contract award approval in late September or early October, “then it will take about 30 days to start construction.”“I got tired of going down Santa Barbara Street,” over the damaged roadway that has since been subjected to a quick fix while awaiting repair, noted Luna.“However, between 10th and 12th streets,” drivers are required to take “evasive action” to avoid potholes, he added.The full council approved the action to start the bid process.

By Peggy KellySanta Paula TimesAn $825,000 road project will patch streets throughout the city, the City Council learned at the Aug. 4th meeting.Councilpersons Mary Ann Krause and Ray Luna asked that the item be pulled from the consent calendar so the “audience and community know that this project is moving forward,” what areas will be affected.Public Works Director/City Engineer Cliff Finley said the arterial roadway overlay work would be throughout the city with a total length of 3.4 miles.Streets targeted for improvement include Santa Barbara Street between 7th and 12th streets, 12th Street from Main to Santa Paula streets, Palm Avenue from Harvard Boulevard to Santa Paula Street and 8th Street from Harvard Boulevard to Santa Paula Street.“We’re going to have some isolated repairs on Peck Road,” and other locations, he noted, and the treatment of the streets will “vary depending on how damaged. . .”“I want to make sure that we have a map and we should have one for the community. . .” noted Luna.
