Herrera, the deputy city clerk and administrative assistant to City Manager Wally Bobkiewicz, is running against incumbent City Clerk Steven Salas, who is seeking a second term.The filing date for Blanchard Community Library Trustees has been extended due to long-time incumbent Gene Marzec announcing that he would not seek another term.There are four seats up for election to the library board including a seat left open by Dr. Dora Crouch who retired in July midway through her four-year term. Incumbent Ninette Sena-Reyes and Ed Geis – appointed to fulfill the term of a trustee who resigned earlier this year – are also running to retain their seats. There are three full-term and one short-term – Crouch’s unexpired term - opening on the library board.The filing period for all races is extended when an incumbent fails to file by this year’s Aug. 6 deadline: the deadline for those seeking a seat on the BCL Board of Trustees is now Aug. 11.

The race is officially on for City Council and City Clerk after all the candidates submitted nomination papers verified by the Ventura County Elections Office.
By Peggy KellySanta Paula TimesThe race is officially on for City Council and City Clerk after all the candidates submitted nomination papers verified by the Ventura County Elections Office.Friday was the deadline for the submittal of nomination papers and also the first day that City Hall was closed due to its new alternating Friday closure schedule. But Deputy City Clerk Josie Herrera – herself a candidate for the job of City Clerk – stayed the full day at City Hall in case last minute candidates emerged.No one filed to run against incumbent City Treasurer Sandy Easley, a city finance employee, who now will automatically reassume the office.For the City Council seats held by incumbents Ray Luna and John Procter there is one challenger, former two-term City Councilwoman Laura Flores Espinosa. Luna and Procter are both seeking a second term on the council.
