Santa Paula police investigators are still trying to determine why an 18-year-old area man was shot Saturday night and critically injured, according to a SPPD spokesman.

Saul Medrano of Santa Paula remains in critical condition at Community Memorial Hospital, where he underwent surgery for his injury, said Sgt. Carlos Juarez.The shooting occurred on January 22 at about 6:40 p.m. when Medrano was in a vehicle on Main Street at the corner of Lucada. “It appears that there was some kind of disturbance a block or two away” at Teague Park – located in the 500 block of West Harvard Boulevard - that might have led to the shooting, said Sgt. Juarez.The passenger or passengers of a large white passenger vehicle were reported to be involved in a confrontation at the park; a few minutes later Medrano was shot and witnesses reported seeing a large white passenger vehicle leaving the area. Santa Paula Fire Department EMTs and ambulance paramedics treated Medrano on scene before he was transported to Community Memorial Hospital in Ventura.
