All people of faith are invited to join us from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. on Friday, March 4 for the annual World Day of Prayer at El Buen Pastor United Methodist Church, 1029 E. Santa Paula Street. This global ecumenical movement has roots in the gatherings of religious women in the 19th century, who sought to create worldwide fellowship and strength through this annual day of international prayer. Always the first Friday of March, this celebration seeks to bring together people of all races, cultures and traditions in closer relationship, understanding and action.A continental breakfast and time for fellowship precedes this special worship service. The speaker will be Dr. Gabino Aguirre. Dr. Aguirre is a member of our City Council, and served of mayor of Santa Paula. During that time, he participated in a conference of mayors from around the world, dedicated to the abolishment of nuclear weapons and the creation of a more peaceful and safe world for all people. This is a goal shared by many of the world’s religions.
The event and the breakfast are free, sponsored by the Santa Paula Ministerial Association. An offering will be taken during the service to support the work of providing food for the area’s homeless and hungry. Local ministers who have organized this event are hopeful that many folks from Santa Paula will take part in this brief but important time, as together we join the world in prayer.
