Varsity boys hold onto second place with win

The varsity boys squeezed by Nordhoff last week, 8-6 in a back-and-forth contest. The Cardinals were ahead 4-2 after three innings of play, but the Rangers moved ahead by one after four innings. Santa Paula answered with two runs in the fifth and another in the sixth to seal the win.Rudy Gamez started on the mound for the Cards, pitching three innings. Stephen Paul came in the fourth inning to take the win. Mike Cortez wrapped things up in the final two innings, allowing only one hit.Travis McClain had the big bat for the day, hitting a triple, sending in the go-ahead run in the bottom of the fifth. McClain recorded two hits, two RBIs and two runs for the day. Johnny Carrillo walked three times, scored twice, and had one hit and an RBI. Eddie Delgadillo had two RBIs off one hit and a walk. Nick Pulido was hit by pitches twice, walked once and scored two runs.
The varsity boys play Oaks Christian at home Friday and 3:30 p.m.
