The staff and students are to be commended for their efforts and accomplishment.New Teachers Recognized: The Santa Paula High School Board of Trustees will welcome 13 new teachers to the district at the Board Meeting in October 2005. A special congratulations to our AVID staff for their dedication and commitment to students. The mission of AVID at SPHS is to ensure that all students, especially the students that are caught in the middle, succeed in a rigorous curriculum and follow a path that will increase enrollment at a four-year college or university.
Fall Sports: The 2005 fall sports season has started. Attend games and support your sports teams. For more information or game times and dates contact Mr. Henry Jacinto, Athletic Director, at extension 234.Two New Parent Support Groups at SPHS: PACE = Partners for Academic Curriculum Excellence. This parent group is designed to help our faculty in their roles as educators and nurturers of students. The focus of the group is to provide support that will help students become responsible and confident individuals who can function to the best of their abilities in their educational experiences. Padres Adelante in collaboration with SPUHSD is providing monthly workshops that will focus on supporting your child’s success in school. The program will target our Spanish-speaking students and parents. For information on any of these two groups contact SPHS at extension 207. The first Parent Meeting is scheduled for October 13, 2005 at 6:00 p.m. in the Cafeteria.Additional Minimum Days: Included in my update I have enclosed a copy of a revised school year calendar that includes eight additional minimum days. The SPUHSD and the SPHS teachers have agreed to provide collaboration time for the faculty to work together within their department and other departments to improve instructional techniques and strategies. Collaboration time will be generated by the additional five minutes per day on the 2005-2006 bell schedule. The purpose of collaboration time is for faculty to work on curriculum, common assessments, cross-departmental projects and developing classroom strategies to implement the state content standards, assisting new teachers with their assignments; and developing methods to improve student performance.
