Santa Paula High School’s football program continues to work towards the fall season.
New Head Coach Teohua Sanchez is asking the community to help out financially. “We are looking forward to having a successful and competitive football season. In order to accomplish our goals for the season we must first realize our financial needs,” said Sanchez. “Participating in athletics requires the pay to play mentality. Here at Santa Paula High School, it is no different. They need money to provide the student athletes with good equipment, game meals, transportation and other expenses that arise as a result of running a successful football program. Our philosophy is that our student-athletes deserve the best and to reach that goal we need to acquire the adequate funds to pay for these services.”
Sanchez said that right now he has about 100 young people on the roster. He said that number will drop once the season officially gets underway. The first fall practice is August 18. The problem is that they’re starting the season with no uniforms. He has 50 new varsity players and needs two jerseys per player plus helmets and pads. That bill totals about $210 per player. This doesn’t include JV players. He said it’s very difficult but they are scrambling to raise the money needed to properly protect the players. It takes from four to eight weeks to get equipment delivered with just a little over a month before their first game.
All monetary donations must be paid with a check or cashier’s check, payable to SPHS-ASB-Football Program. All donations should be sent to 404 N. 6th Street, Santa Paula, CA 93060, Attention ASB Bookkeeper. If you have any questions or concerns call Coach Teohua Sanchez at 525-4406 ext. 194.
