Garcia also said a second characteristic they feel is highly desirable is that the superintendent be highly skilled in developing partnerships and should be able to engage all stakeholders. “We believe the success of our children as students and as future economic contributors to society, hinges on our involvement in the process,” he noted. “This can only be achieved with a clear vision and involvement of the Spanish-speaking community.”
Spanish only residents request bilingual superintendent be hired
As they have done at the past few meetings of the Santa Paula Unified School District, a large contingent of Spanish-speaking residents told trustees Thursday night they want a bilingual superintendent.
Only one person spoke at the meeting, compared to the numerous speakers at the podium at past meetings. Jesus Garcia told the board, “Our next superintendent should be able to communicate with the whole community. This includes the ability to speak and write in English and Spanish.”
He added that Latino parents shouldn’t be required to bring one of their children or ask for the secretary in order to dialogue with the superintendent. “As adults the parents and the superintendent should be able to dialogue and determine the best course of action for the student’s education while in school.”
