Multi-agency task force warrant searches result in eight arrests

By Peggy Kelly Santa Paula Times Eight suspects were arrested for various criminal charges after a Thursday morning sweep of 13 homes for probation and parole searches throughout the city.

According to Police Chief Steve McLean, 14 subjects were targeted at 13 residences by a multi-agency task force to ensure they were complying with the terms of their parole or probation.

“All of the suspects,” said McLean, “were either known gang members or gang member associates.”

Santa Paula Police Senior Officer Allen Macias said the SPPD Gang unit along with detectives and officers from the Ventura Police Department, Simi Valley Police Department, Ventura County Sheriffs Departments Gang Unit, Ventura County District Attorneys Office Bureau of Investigation, Santa Barbara County Sheriffs Department, California Department Of Corrections Fugitive Apprehension Team and the FBI served numerous search warrants throughout the city at 7 a.m.

Such efforts are coordinated and conducted to occur simultaneously so those targeted do not have the opportunity to alert others that a warrant search action has been launched.

Arrested were Julian Nunez 20, felony warrant and suspicion of a felon in possession of ammunition and street terrorism; Fidel Cardova, 53, suspicion of being under the influence of a controlled substance; Christian Madrigal, 18, violation of probation; Adrianna Halcon, 20, suspicion of being under the influence of a controlled substance; Rene Parra, 20, suspicion of obstruction and delaying an officer and street terrorism; German Parra, 18, violation of probation, suspicion of street terrorism and assault with a deadly weapon; Steven Cortez, 20, suspicion of obstructing and delaying an officer and John Leon, 18, suspicion of obstruction of justice. 

All those taken into custody are Santa Paula residents.

“The majority of the arrestees,” said Macias, “are members and/or associates of Santa Paula-based criminal street gangs.”

McLean noted, “Three of these suspects received additional charges (street terrorism) after they became involved in a fight in the station jail. “The operation today,” he added, “was just another step toward eliminating gangs and criminals from our community.”

All in all, it was a good week for police with 35 arrests, “For various charges ranging from burglary to violation of probation.” 

The arrests said McLean are, “significant as one-third of these arrests were either known gang members or gang member associates
