What was described as a shoplifting incident that “went bad” is being investigated by Santa Paula Police.

The incident occurred Wednesday, July 30 at about 5:11 p.m. at the Main Supper Store located at 851 E. Main St.

SPPD Sgt. Ken Clark said the incident was, “Basically, a possible shoplift that went bad... not technically, a robbery... “

A male and female subject were inside the store and, “The male store owner believed the female was putting items,” primarily hair products, in her purse.

“When he tried to stop her,” from leaving the premises Clark said the woman’s male companion “grabbed him and when the owner closed the door to prevent them from leaving they pushed their way out.”

No one, Clark added, was injured during the incident, which was recorded on video on the store’s surveillance system.

A customer inside the store at the time of the incident told police the male was Hispanic wearing a white shirt, jeans and sunglasses; the woman was wearing a white top and black jeans. Both suspects were described as being in their late 20s.

Clark said the store owner was not able to recover the merchandise, which was, “Hair products, shampoo or conditioners... or both.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Santa Paula Police Department, 525-4474.
