Santa Paula man stabbed while
picking up kids at girlfriend’s residence

A Santa Paula man was in serious condition after being stabbed Friday evening during an altercation with his ex-girlfriend’s new boyfriend.

According to Santa Paula Police, the August 15 incident occurred in the 600 block of East Main Street.

Commander Ish Cordero said the 28-year-old victim, Jose Luis Ramos, had visited his ex-girlfriend’s residence to pick up the couple’s two young daughters.

While Ramos was waiting for his daughters there was a confrontation between the two men and the woman’s new boyfriend, Jose Gonzalez Ibarra, 27 of Santa Paula, took out a knife and stabbed Ramos multiple times in the upper torso. 

Santa Paula Fire EMTs and ambulance paramedics treated Ramos on the scene before he was transported to Ventura County Medical Center, where his condition was listed as serious.

Cordero said Ramos’ injuries were not life-threatening.

Ibarra, he added, was arrested and booked on charges of assault with a deadly weapon.
