Dorothy Boller Cornitius

1920-2014

Dorothy Cornitius (Elly) passed on August 16, 2014 in Auburn, California. She was born in Oklahoma on November 3, 1920. She moved to California as a young girl, living with her Grandfather in Ventura, and always had a great fondness for this period in her life referring to the smell of orange blossoms, often saying she “Thought I had died and gone to heaven!”. She met Bill Cornitius at Van Nuys High School and attended UCLA briefly when WWII broke out. During the war she worked at Lockheed as a proud Rosie the Riveter and avid volleyball player. She and Bill were married February 11, 1941. They started a Shell distributorship in Santa Paula and a family that grew to include five daughters who were so fortunate to live in a community with wonderful friends, incredible schools, and easy access to the beach which they still adore. Elly was absolutely devoted to Bill and  became a fulltime housewife, a life-calling that she loved and was exceptional at. They eventually moved to Oregon, living for a while in Central Point then on to Sunriver. When Bill died in 2001, Elly moved first to Roseville, then finally to Auburn where she could be closer to family. Elly is predeceased by her husband Bill, her daughter Jennifer, and her infant son, Cameron. She is survived by her daughters Debbe Cornitius, Miccie McNee, Candace Martinez, Heidi Riege, 13 grandchildren, and 9 great grandchildren, and her sister-in-law, Carolyn Bergholdt . She lived a full, and long life and will be greatly missed.  Gifts in her memory can be given to Santa Clara Valley Hospice/Home Support PO Box 365, Santa Paula, California 93060.
