after failing to make Foothill/Peck turn

Santa Paula Police are looking for the driver traveling at a high rate of speed who slammed into a wall on the west side of the city Monday before fleeing on foot from the scene.

SPPD Senior Officer Ken Clark said the Labor Day incident occurred September 1 at about 6:15 p.m.

“It appears there was a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed headed east on Foothill Road that due to his speed couldn’t negotiate the sharp right turn onto Peck Road.”

When the vehicle couldn’t complete the turn, “He collided with the wall on the east side of the street and fled the scene,” on foot.

Clark noted that one witness to the collision didn’t say if the male driver appeared to be injured as he fled from the scene, leaving his grey, 2006 Volvo S60 behind.

The car said Clark, “Had major front end damage, not necessarily a total but close... “

The damage, he added, was no surprise: “A witness estimated the vehicle was traveling at about 50 mph, fast especially when you’re supposed to be taking a sharp turn,” whose suggested speed according to posted signage is 15 mph.

There was no estimate of the damage to the wall struck by the speeding vehicle.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Santa Paula Police Department, 525-4474.
