Last Friday’s Cruise Nite kicked off a weekend of fun when visitors were cruisin’ to the Cruise Knights band, and enjoying the Ready Santa Paula emergency preparedness event.

Cruise Nite - sponsored by the Santa Paula Police Officers Association and Chamber of Commerce - shares space with the annual Ready Santa Paula Emergency Preparedness Display. According to Steve Lazenby, chairman of Santa Paula Citizens Corp, which sponsors the Ready Santa Paula event, this year there were thrilling demonstrations throughout the evening. Above, Santa Paula Police Officer Chad Peplinski answers questions regarding the equipment the Police Department uses, including protective gear and even weapons. Below, Santa Paula Reserve Firefighter Felix Magana instructs “Sidewalk CPR.” The “Sidewalk CPR” instruction is sponsored by Southern California Edison. It only took a few minutes to learn the hands only method of cardiopulmonary resuscitation. In addition, the members of the Santa Paula Fire Department demonstrated heavy rescue extrication techniques,” and cut up on car right on Main Street to show how the Jaws of Life work.
