Robert George Parr

George retired to Ventura from his Santa Monica based Parr Construction Company.  He was an energetic, handsome man, full of life and fun; athletic and hard working; gregarious and out-going; he  was the quintessential optimist,  liked and admired by all who knew him.  Private Family Services will be held in Ventura at an unspecified date.

He was born in Winnepeg Canada  and came to the United States as a youngster, when his  family migrated to the US.  As a teenager and young adult he lived in southeast Los Angeles and attended Marshall High School.

His long journey with the Parr Contracting Co.  (owned by his uncles) began with his teenage summer jobs.  He was with the company well over 40 years, becoming one of the partners along the way.  He was with the firm until his retirement, around age 68.  He enjoyed working and was a very capable person.  He was a physically fit man, well into his 80s.  His last company construction project was a 30 story office building.  He related he climbed ladders between floors all day.  Because he enjoyed the challenges  of construction  he continued to work after he retired--taking on a variety of small jobs and family projects.

George became a “car buff” around the age of 13 when his father bought him a car that didn’t run and “was ready for the wrecking yard.”  George completely re-furbished the car on his own, figuring it out as he repaired the mechanics, the electrical system and got it running.  But he couldn’t drive it because he was too young and too short to get a driver’s license.  His love of auto restoration was his hobby throughout his life.  Over the years he beautifully restored several Model A’s, including a rare “Vicky.” He had many enjoyable hours on outings with the Ventura Model A Club.

He was devoted to  Querida “ Jo” Fox  with whom he travelled the world visiting Australia and New Zealand, Fiji, Great Britain, Hawaii, and spent  a month in Calgary, Canada, every September.  They enjoyed the views from their new home on Sunset Drive in Ventura  where they moved from a desert home George had himself built 20 years ago.

George will be missed by his immediate family: Sons Daniel and Tim Parr, his Sister Shirley (Parr)Wild, Step-daughter Linda Hartman.  He was preceded in death by his daughter Carol Treichel.  He has two grandsons Paul Treichel and Kadyn Parr, five granddaughters, Tracy, Taryn, Katie, and Kennedy Parr  and Crystal (Parr) Claire.  His family of the past 20 years Querida “Jo” Fox and her daughter Lisa Subia and Jo’s sons Gary and Brian Fox.
