Santa Paula schools have received grant money to help pay for kitchen equipment.

It’s under the National School Lunch Program Equipment Assistance Grant.  The grant was written to assist with purchasing new ovens at Blanchard, Glen City, Grace Thille and McKevett elementary schools and Santa Paula High School. The grant pays 100% of the cost of the new ovens up to the $70,000 for all five schools.

Several other county schools also received grant money. The grants are administered by the California Education Department. It’s a federal program to help improve nutrition at schools. The money can only be used for such things as stoves, refrigerators, freezers and steamers.

Schools where at least half of the students qualify for free or low-cost meals received top priority.
