SPPD investigating death of pedestrian in Harvard/Laurie Lane crosswalk

A wheelchair bound man was struck by a vehicle and killed Tuesday at about 4:15 p.m. in a crosswalk on the west side of town.

According to witnesses the unidentified victim was crossing West Harvard Boulevard at Laurie Lane when a westbound vehicle struck him. 

The victim, who witnesses said lived in a nearby mobile home park, was using the crosswalk when he was knocked hundreds of feet by the force of the collision; his wheelchair broken into pieces. 

The driver stopped at the scene and although passersby tried to revive the victim he was declared deceased at the scene. 

The crosswalk had been the scene of another fatal accident.
