Cheryl Kay Lewis

Cheryl Kay Lewis left us to be with her Heavenly Father Friday, December 5, 2014, at the age of 66. She will be deeply missed by her family which she loved dearly and countless close friends in her home of Honolulu, HI and around the country.

Cheryl was born January 7, 1948 in Santa Paula, CA. She was an Alumni of Santa Paula High School class of 1965, and was looking forward to the upcoming 50th reunion. Her travels took her many places across this country and abroad. She lived in Ventura, Ojai, Santa Barbara, Washington State, Washington D.C. and Tokyo Japan before settling in Honolulu, where she spent most of the past 20 years.

She attended Santa Barbara City College, graduated magna cum laude from Hawaii Pacific University and later studied at American University in Washingon D.C. to get her Master’s Degree. While in Japan she taught English in a private Japanese School. Eventually that job brought her back to her hometown of Santa Paula where she managed a program for visiting students from Japan. At that time, the school owned the Glen Tavern Inn where she and the students lived. Then off to Hawaii where she found her new passion, racing outrigger canoes in the beautiful waters off Honolulu. There she made many close friends and was on the water almost daily.

Cheryl lived in the Light and Grace of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ every minute of everyday. She was completely into her faith and church, always quick to help anyone who needed it. She had an amazing positive outlook that affected everyone she came in contact with. She loved life and everyone in it! Her children and grandchildren were her life. Even though many of us were on the mainland she stayed in touch, never forgetting to congratulate with a card or call any birthday or special occasion. She left us too soon and we all miss her deeply.

Cheryl is survived by her parents Bob Lewis, Ventura and Beverly Couch, Santa Paula; daughters Deirdre Toby, NM and Regina (Paul) Guzzo, Honolulu; son Jason Lewis, NV; grandchildren Evan, Isaac, Uriah and Ayla Guzzo, Faith Lewis; brothers Craig (MaryAnn) Lewis and Chuck (Kelly) Lewis, Santa Paula.

A Celebration of Life will be held on her birthday January 7th on the beaches of Waikiki with a paddle out and burial at sea. Aloha, Cheryl.
