Fireworks: Donations needed to
ensure spectacular display over SP

The City Council made it official that there will again be a 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular this summer when they approved to co-sponsor the event at the March 2 meeting.

But although Al Guilin of the Fireworks Committee appeared to present the $7,500 deposit check to the city to secure the pyrotechnics company, he noted that more funds must be raised to cover the total $15,000 cost of the fireworks show.

Guilin, who joked “I’m wearing my fireworks shirt,” decorated with patriotic stars and stripes, noted it is the fifth year the Fireworks Committee has overseen the celebration of America’s Independence.

“Celebrating our nation’s holiday is a sure way on honoring our country and is a great way to spend a summer evening with friends and family,” enjoying a traditional barbecue with those living in prime firework viewing areas hosting large parties to celebrate America’s birthday.

But, Guilin said an additional $7,500 must be raised by late June to cover the cost of the fireworks display that is held at Harding Park and can be seen throughout Santa Paula.

The Santa Paula Rotary Club is again overseeing the tax-deductible donations for the Fireworks Spectacular including those monies left in brightly decorated red, white and blue counter top collection cans displayed by area merchants.

The city’s co-sponsorship is waiving the permit for the event and supplying already on duty public safety personnel.

Donation checks or money orders can be made to Santa Paula Rotary Club with “Fireworks” written on the check’s memo line. Donations can be given to any member of the Rotary Club or mailed to Santa Paula Rotary Club, P.O. Box 809, Santa Paula, CA 93061.
