From the first chords from a Beatles’ guitar to the first words spoken from the Moon there was no decade quite like the 1960s where you couldn’t trust anyone over 30 and “Right on” was the catchphrase of the generation!

And you’d better be there or be square as the decade is celebrated at Moonlight at the Ranch IX: “Groovy 60s!”

The latest in the famed Moonlight at the Ranch parties, each year benefiting the Santa Paula Police & Fire Department, is set for September 12, at historic Limoneira Ranch.

Tickets are only $65 each — and prepaid reserved tables of 10 are only $750 — for this night (5:30 to 11 p.m.) of psychedelic revelry where you can don a Nehru jacket and Beatles wig, dig out your favorite tie-dyed shirt, wear a leather headband and paisley bellbottoms or just come as your casual self for a night of great fun.

Enjoy tasty “appetizers” and a no-host cocktail party in Strawberry Fields Forever Park before grooving on to the main “Happening” in the courtyard of Limoneira headquarters where there will be more no-host bars and delicious tastings offered by dozens of the region’s finest restaurants.

And what would the 60s be without the sounds that changed the musical world? Sound Effect Band and DJ Bruce Barrios will be blasting the tunes that made the 60s famous for its tunes, from The British Invasion to “Purple Jimmy Hendricks and other danceable tunes ready for rocking out!

Raffles and other events will only add to the fun of this year’s Moonlight celebration, Ventura County’s signature event. Memories are made each year at Moonlight, the county’s most famous and unique adults-only celebration.

It’s so much fun that even organizers at times almost forget the party is staged to benefit the Santa Paula Police & Fire Foundation.

Over the years Moonlight events have reflected the diversity of Rancho and Western life, the glamour of Hollywood Nights, centered on sci-fi with a trip to the Moon, celebrated the crazy Roaring 20s, brought howls with Creatures of the Night, up all night partying with Disco Fever and lush Island living with Polynesian Paradise.

“We are proud that Moonlight has such a strong reputation of always being unique and always fun,” said Moonlight Co-Chair Debbie Johnson. “It’s important that our guests enjoy themselves at our celebration that benefits the nonprofit Santa Paula Police & Fire Foundation.”

Proceeds from each Moonlight provides quality public safety services and valuable programs to the Santa Paula community through formally submitted grant requests that reflect needs of the cash-strapped police and fire departments.

“Police and fire both benefit with Moonlight funding used for equipment and programs that enhance public safety,” said Co-Chair Leslie Cornejo, who with Johnson serves on the Santa Paula Police & Fire Foundation Board of Directors.

“But we couldn’t have Moonlight without our generous sponsors and those restaurants that supply the best tastings in Ventura County!” said Johnson.

Limoneira Co., noted Cornejo, deserves ongoing kudos for allowing the annual Moonlight to be held at their historic ranch located just west of Santa Paula, “The perfect place for our outdoor celebrations … ”

And, said Johnson, “Each year our famed Santa Paula weather has provided perfect temperatures for a wonderful evening of fun under the light of the moon.”

Tickets go on sale July 1 for Moonlight at the Ranch IX: “Groovy 60s!” and you’ll want to be there — not square — for this famed evening of fun.
