new location offering wonderful plants

Santa Paula News

It’s going to be the usual spectacular Giant Plant Sale but in a spectacular new location when the annual favorite event for gardeners moves to the former Ford dealership on Hallock Drive!

The April 25 and April 26 sale again will benefit Santa Clara Valley Hospice-Home Support Group and America in Bloom Santa Paula Chapter.

The sale will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday at the former dealership, located behind the Shell gasoline station.

Hospice and AIB will welcome shoppers at the new location on Hallock Drive just south of Highway 126 where there’s plenty of room

hundreds of varieties of flowers, herbs, spices and other plants,

thousands of containers big and small filled with whatever the heart of a gardener desires. There are flowers ready to plant or ready to go in easy to display hanging baskets; herbs are always a big seller and this year drought tolerant succulents are sure to be popular for water smart gardens.

The selection also includes annuals, perennial, pots and six-packs in all the colors of the rainbow and more!

DoRight’s Plant Nursery, Dummen Group, Plant Haven, Ball Horticulture, Green Fuse and Recology are donating plants and other garden must-haves for the sale.

Gary Nasalroad wears two hats that combine one colorful topper for the annual Giant Plant Sale, serving on the board of directors of both AIB and Hospice.

And he’s pleased at the way this year’s event is blooming: “I’m really looking forward to the new location, I think it will be great…there’s easy access, it’s closer to town than the previous one and people will have a real clean environment to work with.”

And plant to choose from: Dianne Dudley, founder of the AIB chapter and co-owner of DoRight’s Plant Nursery with her husband Dudley, “Has gone out of her way to stock this…she even went up north to get more stock. She and Dudley,” noted Nasalroad, “have gone out of their way to secure as much stock as they can to make this a great show!”

The record-breaking drought should not deter those who crave color or something fresh for the kitchen.

“Even with the drought we’re not taking about breaking the budget with watering flowers around the house or those planted in containers.

“Yes, we need to conserve water but we also have to preserve beauty,” and Nasalroad said the Giant Plant Sale will offer “everything that people will need for beauty — and something to eat as well…”

There is free admission and free parking and plenty of free wheelbarrows to use for your purchase — plus there are volunteers that will make your shopping experience easier and help load your plants in your car.

It takes an army of volunteers to stage each year’s “Giant Plant Sale” including school and youth groups.
