Robert “Bobby” Edmund Cobos

Our beloved brother, father, grandfather and son, Robert “Bobby” Cobos went to be with our Heavenly Father on the morning of May 14, 2015, surrounded by his loving family.

Bobby was born in Santa Paula on February 21, 1962, and was the fourth of six boys born to Lupe and the late William “Bill” Cobos, Jr.  As a youngster, Bobby attended Saint Sebastian Catholic School and Santa Paula High School and was a proud graduate of the Class of ‘80.  He was fun loving, kind and was known to be mischievous as a teen.  His love for the outdoors and camping was one of his family’s favorite past times.  This led him to join the California Youth Conservation Corps and later, proudly serving in the United States Air Force as a military security police officer.

Bobby’s occupation was that of a long haul truck driver, hauling freight that included everything from lumber, glass, flowers, autos and other freight that could fit on a tractor trailer rig. Truck driving took him to countless states and enabled him to visit friends and family on a whim. As he was passing through, he would tell his daughter, “meet me”, and he’d park his rig in the middle of the road, so that his daughter could give him a quick hug. Bobby could not be in one place for too long and always had to be on the move.  This was perfect for Bobby’s chosen occupation. Bobby loved to have his son and daughter in the rig during the summer. He loved his family and his family loved him immensely.

Bobby’s courageous battle with melanoma cancer lasted three months. He  is survived by his mother, Lupe Cobos, who was by his side and cared for him throughout his illness, daughter Crystal, son-in-law AJ Todd, son Steven Cobos, brothers Bill (Linda), Ronald (Cynthia), Richard (Virginia), Rene (Teri), and his youngest brother Rodney (Heidiann). He leaves behind two beautiful granddaughters Adriana and Olivia and is survived by numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, and extended family and friends.

Bobby was preceded in death by his father William Cobos, Jr., grandparents William Sr. and Pauline Cobos and Antonio and Luz Garibay.

Funeral services will be Thursday, May 21, 2015, at Saint Sebastian Catholic Church, 235 Ninth St. Santa Paula, CA 93060.  A Rosary will be recited at 9:30 a.m. following a Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m.  Immediately following, he will be laid to rest at Pierce Brothers Santa Paula Cemetery.

Our sincere thanks to Dr. Deborah Mendenhall at the Veteran’s Administration Hospital in Santa Monica. It was her compassion and understanding that helped Bobby and his family through this most difficult time.

Bobby was entrusted to the care of Castaneda-Crollett, Mortuary, Los Angeles, CA.
