A Santa Paula teenager was arrested Monday for allegedly stabbing a man in the head during a domestic dispute a few days before.

According to Santa Paula Police Sgt. Cody Madison the incident occurred early Sunday, June 7.

Officers were dispatched at approximately 1:36 a.m. to the report of a stabbing victim in the 700 block of North Ojai Road.

Madison said, “Upon arrival, officers found the victim,” a 33-year-old Santa Paula resident, “who had received several stab wounds to his head and right hand.”

The stab wounds were not life threatening and the unidentified victim was treated at the scene by Santa Paula Fire EMTs and an ambulance paramedic before he was transported to the Santa Paula Hospital for further treatment.

During the investigation, Madison said, “It appeared the suspect,” Angel Duran, 18, of Santa Paula, “had demanded money from a female family member who was also present,” at the home that is listed as Duran’s residence although “that’s not really confirmed.”

After the family member refused to give Duran money she locked herself in a bedroom with the man who became the victim.

But, “Duran forced open the door and attacked the victim,” stabbing him in the head and the hand before fleeing from the scene.

Although due to the severity of the wounds it is believed that a knife was used in the attack “They didn’t recover a weapon…and the victim was halfway through the scuffle before he realized he had been stabbed.”

Officers checked the area but were unable to locate Duran.

On Tuesday, June 9 at approximately 5:39 p.m. officers on patrol spotted Duran walking in the area of the 100 block of North 13th Street.

Madison said officers took Duran into custody without incident and he was transported to the SPPD.

Later Duran was taken to Ventura County Main Jail where he was booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and mayhem; bail was set at $100,000.

Madison said those involved in the incident said they suspected Duran, a documented gang member known to use methamphetamine, of being under the influence of drugs and alcohol at the time of the attack.
