Sr. Center Rummage Sale Saturday

Santa Paula News

You can drop off trash and then shop for treasures at two separate events Saturday, July 25.

First off is the Community Drop-Off Day, the second one staged by the city’s contracted trash hauler Recology Ventura where you’ll also be able to pick up free compost, all at Teague Park (484 W. Harvard Blvd.).

After you’ve cleaned out your vehicle you can fill it up again right around the corner at the Community Center where you’ll be able to shop till you drop at the Senior Center Rummage Sale.

The Saturday July 25th from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Community Drop Off Event will again give Santa Paulans the opportunity to gather up and get rid of their big stuff; and then they’ll be able to take home the free compost!

Each vehicle or trailer will be charged only $10 each to drop off his or her hard-to-dispose of items; proof of residency is required so bring identification.

Recology will be accepting appliances, furniture, televisions, computers, monitors, printers, yard waste and construction and demolition waste.

Unacceptable items are tires, household hazardous waste, paint, oil, batteries, pesticides, explosives, loose trash, dirt, concrete and asphalt.

And, it you want to take home some environmentally friendly compost bring a container for the first come, first served giveaway.

Payment — remember only $10 for each vehicle and trailer — can be made with check or cash and don’t forget the identification, a copy of a current utility bill or a driver’s license for example, proving you are a Santa Paula resident.

According to Gail Cullens of Recology’s Santa Paula office, “There will probably be a semi” filled with the free compost that benefits gardens with its moisture retaining powers that helps cut down on watering during the drought.

Compost also adds nutrients to the soil that works its way back to the root matter for more beautiful plants and productive produce.

After the Community Drop-Off be sure to swing by the Senior Center Rummage Sale at the Community Center from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. where there will be hundreds of mixed up things to rummage through and buy at bargain prices.

The sale is being held in the front parking lot of the Community Center, located at the corner of West Main Street and Steckel Drive.

It is the second Rummage Sale being held to benefit the Senior Center: the first event in April drew dozens of vendors ranging from area nonprofits to individuals who were looking to sell gently used merchandise to handcrafted, one of a kind items. Even seniors themselves are taking advantage of the sale to raise extra cash.

There is plenty of parking for the July 25 Senior Center Rummage Sale at Glen City School, located right across the street from the Community Center front parking lot where vendors will be displaying their wares.
